The need

Recapture on a phone the feel of a real mechanical labyrinth in three dimensions, with the weight of the ball, the ramps and the drops.

The answer

You tilt the phone and a steel ball rolls through three-dimensional gutters. The perspective follows the real position of your face, so you can see the rims, the supports and the tracks below.

  1. Eleven courses, up to seven levels
  2. Tilt steering, via Core Motion
  3. Face-tracked perspective, via ARKit
  4. Checkpoints and local saves

The project in detail

Sillage is a mechanical labyrinth: eleven three-dimensional marble courses, from La descente to La triple bascule. You hold the phone like a tray, tilt it gently, and the steel ball rolls, bounces and takes on ramps, cambers and bridges with no rim.

The perspective follows the real position of your face: moving the phone or looking from the side lets you see the tracks below. Every track is a solid object, with no magic passage. Numbered markers serve as checkpoints, and progress is saved on the device.

A native Metal and SwiftUI app, in development for iPhone and Mac.
